Hey folks! Transparency Disclosure- Some of the links in this article are affiliate links. That means I'll receive a small commission if you decide to click on information technology and buy something. Don't worry, it doesn't price you annihilation actress!

Our 37th-calendar month blogging marked was the first month in a long time where nosotros didn't reach 10K pageviews. We were so incredibly shut that I all the same count it equally a win. The month ended with simply nether that, and we had a ton of struggles along the way.

Hopefully, most of those are resolved, and our side by side month will accident this month out of the h2o! Read on to find out what went incorrect and how we fixed information technology.

37th Month Update

Readership

Our readership suffered a bit this month. There were quite a few days with under 200 users, and quite a few days with barely that.

Why Did our Traffic Driblet?

It's hard to say why the traffic dropped this calendar month. I recall a big role of it was the Google update that rolled out at the commencement of the month. Luckily, I got an MSN feature at about the same time, so it didn't event in a huge turn down in traffic overall, but my organic traffic took a hit.

The biggest trouble (I think) is that there was a mobile usability issue with our top-performing post. This made the post drop from page 1 to page three or 4, for a desperate decrease in traffic. I rushed to fix it, but unfortunately, the harm was done. There are two huge lessons to be learned here:

  1. Make sure every page is user friendly
  2. Don't put all of your eggs in i basket

I fixed the first issues as soon as I could, and I've been working on the second for quite a few months. It's finally starting to testify.

Traffic Drivers

Organic Search

Fifty-fifty with the drop in traffic, organic search was our top driver of traffic. It was sad to see this metric subtract so much over the calendar month after all the difficult work I've put in, but Google is going to do what Google does, and the best nosotros can do is fix bug as they arise and write great content.

Summit Pages

The height page is notwithstanding "How to be a Twitch Chapter", and "Alternatives to Twitch" made a surprise showing in the number two slot. "How to get Twitter Followers" and "Buffy is the Greatest Show" dropped to 3 and 4, and "FU Coin" rounded out the tiptop five.

All of the acme five posts had more 200 users, but with the exception of "Alternatives to Twitch" and "FU money", all had drastic drops in traffic when compared to the previous month.

Even with the drops in traffic, it was heady to see some of these other posts surge. Hopefully, I fixed the biggest issues with the site, and some of my posts will regain their previous traction.

Referrals

The saving grace for my traffic this calendar month was referral traffic. I had 2 huge features, one at the beginning of the month and i towards the stop.

First, my post "Little Things Add together up" was featured on MSN. This really helped get-go the loss of traffic at the first of the month. It led to a nice surge in traffic for not only that post, but for a related mail on cashback apps.

And then, at the end of the calendar month, my post on Generational Poverty was featured on Tread Lightly, Retire Early'south weekly circular-up of Women in Finance.

These ii features weren't quite enough to become u.s.a. to that coveted 10K page views, but they helped get us shut.

Direct Hits

We had about 1500 users coming to u.s. via direct hit during our 37th month, which was right on par with last month. A lot of these straight hits are from our wonderful subscribers – if yous haven't hit that subscribe push button yet, what are you waiting for? Where else volition you get weblog strategies, travel tips, money advice, gaming info, and fine art ideas straight to your inbox?

Social Media

Our attain on social media was also on par with last month. We had virtually 600 users finding us via social channels this month, the majority of which came from Pinterest.

Pinterest

We had about 300 users finding us from Pinterest this month, which is a piffling more than than last month. I did finally piece of work through the majority of the Pinterest Ninja course, simply I oasis't implemented any of the new tips I've learned yet. That's for next month!

Even without implementing the new stuff, we're still over 100 monthly visitors ahead of where we were earlier taking the course. That's been a huge win for our Pinterest reach thus far, and I promise to come across it continue every bit we implement the new strategies.

Another new strategy that I'm going to implement on Pinterest is story pins. It's a new characteristic, but it seems to bulldoze a lot of traffic. We shall see how it goes!

Twitter

We had 74 users visiting us from Twitter this calendar month, which is similar to previous months. I used the platform much more as a networking tool than a traffic-driving tool this calendar month, and am focusing more than on building my account.

I besides tested out some direct affiliate marketing on the platform, which failed, simply it was worth a effort, correct?

Facebook

Our reach on Facebook was almost the same as it was last calendar month, and all of it is due to the Revive Old Posts plug-in. We had about 60 users visiting us from the platform, the majority of which came when old posts were randomly published.

I know that some folks drive a ton of traffic via Facebook, with groups and pages and things similar that, merely I've fabricated a conscious decision to not worry nigh the platform as much.  There'due south merely and so much fourth dimension in a day, and I'd rather focus on the platforms that I savor and focus on the tasks that lead to growth, like SEO.

Content

We posted a ton of awesome and engaging content this month. First, because we are transitioning into a blog about passion burn, we decided to highlight that with a post on Hobbies that Make Coin. To compliment that, nosotros published 3 posts on painting to get a caput start on our art department. Those were Drawing Ideas, What Colors Make Orange and Painting for Beginners. We also expanded our gaming section with a post on why you should try Streaming on Twitch.

Of form, we also stuck to our financial roots, with a post on being Business firm Poor, and an exploration of How Much Money Y'all Really Need. We rounded the month out with an editorial piece on Generational Poverty because even every bit we grow and alter, tackling difficult societal problems and so that everyone can pursue a passion fire lifestyle is always going to be one of our priorities.

How Are We Going to Improve Our Readership

I know I've talked almost this every month, but I notwithstanding call up improving our writing for SEO is going to be the number one way to better readership. We can meet how important this is now that "FU Money", the get-go mail service we wrote with SEO in listen, is starting to rank. Hopefully, the other posts we wrote with an SEO focus volition outset to rank as well.

The other way nosotros are going to improve our readership is by branching out. A lot of people say that you demand to stick to a specific niche, just we saw that wasn't the case when our gaming content started to outrank our traditional finance content. That's why we decided to expand into more gaming and into art. Even so, keeping things related is important, which is why nosotros chose to group these things under the passion fire umbrella. Information technology'due south still as well early to tell if the art posts will rank, but we practise know that nosotros're seeing success with gaming. We're hoping to replicate that success in the art realm every bit well, which will profoundly increment our readership.

Monetization

This was the first month that we didn't make a profit since joining the Money Mix Insiders SEO Hustle. All the same, fifty-fifty with our lackluster performance, nosotros still made sales and netted coin with ads. Nosotros are close to making a consistent profit every month, even though nosotros had to re-invest all the money we made this calendar month (and more) back into the web log.

Ads

$50.97

Our advertising revenue dropped this month, and a big office of that was the decrease in page views. Hopefully, with the changes we made, we will see this number jump back up in January.

Affiliates

$13.55

We didn't make well-nigh as much in affiliate sales this calendar month as we did last month. The interesting affair is that we made more than sales this calendar month (10 total sales!) than final month, and made way less money.

What does this teach us?

Commencement – that Amazon has horrible committee rates. Merely nosotros all knew that. However, it also teaches us that chapter sales tin differ widely from calendar month to month. Sometimes y'all might have an astonishing month, and sometimes yous will have a slow month. These are things you need to take into account.

37th month

Even so, when I think that I made $16 my entire showtime twelvemonth blogging, and made almost that in just a month this year, I think that maybe I'm on the correct track. I know that I just need to work a footling harder on SEO for affiliate linking posts, and I'll exist making ten times this amount monthly.

Gross earnings: $64.52

Expenses:

Coin Mix Insiders SEO Hustle – $170

Site Improvements- $180

Total expenses: $350

I spent a ton of coin on Partners in Fire this month – but it was worth it. The SEO Hustle group continues to help me learn and grow and meliorate my procedure. I know for a fact that I wouldn't accept the traffic that I exercise if information technology weren't for them. They've motivated me to keep with information technology, and helped me improve on so many things. It's well worth the cost. They are yet offering a iii-month free trial if yous want to see what the hype is about!

I spent another $180 on making improvements to my site. That means fixing the mobile problems that Google didn't like, and doing some other back end stuff to improve user experience. This stuff is more important than many realize, and unfortunately, I don't have the technical skills to do it myself. Fortunately, the Insiders group has a great contact who tin do these techy things and his rates are extremely reasonable. I wouldn't have even known where to begin without the assist of the Insiders.

Net earnings:  Negative $258.48

Continued Growth

Fifty-fifty though we spent far more we earned this month, it was worth it. These investments are going to pay off in spades in the very near future – I can feel it! We're going to attain 100K monthly pageviews in 2022 – you'll come across!

Follow along our journeying every month and see our continued growth!
